Dim Sum and Dou Miao at VIP Harbor Seafood – 02.06.2010

VIP Harbor Seafood - Garlic Sauteed Pea ShootsWith that much oil, garlic and salt, even cilantro might taste good.

Wait. No.

[Garlic Sauteed Pea Shoots/Do Miao, order from menu]

from a previous post on VIP Harbor Seafood: “…servers who barely speak English, dressed in the typical cheesy red-lantern-golden-dragon-Chinatown-restaurant type uniform, are set against a seafoam green and flamingo pink decor, glossy white formica furnishings, leftover from the ’80s Miami Vice era. But for being the only dim sum within a half mile, even 10 miles, of home, it works…”

I never ever ever eat this. I may be eating dim sum on the Westside, but I still have (sub)standards!

VIP Harbor Seafood: Hot and Sour Soup

Mom tells me that when she was pregnant with me, she craved Hot and Sour Soup every day. Sure explains a lot (hot cock).

VIP is also very close to me and I’ve always wondered how it compares with the stalwarts in SGV. And you know what? From the pictures above, it doesn’t look too bad. Har gow and shrimp dumplings looks especially good, not sure about the shrimp tofu (how was it?). Nice pics as usual =)

I’m just relaying a message from the bf reading this blog from behind me. It’s Har Gow, not Shrimp Har Gow (because Har is Shrimp in Chinese). :o)

ANYWAY, thank you for the tip on VIP, Sarah!

daniel s: vip is passable at best, but it wins on a late saturday morning for proximity. if you have it in you, it is always better to drive out, if for nothing else, more variety. honestly, i think these were actually all the restaurant had.

chiara: thank you! made the correction!

Oh, Sarah, we are going to have to agree to disagree. I can’t believe anyone would go more than once…

I’m going to make you eat my cilantro stem soup one of these days. Don’t worry, there is lots of orange flavor in there too. :)

These pictures heartily remind me of the delicious (and surprisingly inexpensive!) dim sum we just shared with friends for my fiance’s birthday. You don’t happen to have any dumpling or sesame ball recipes up your sleeve do you? I was really hoping to re-create the meal at home some time.
