Hello Sarah:

Even though the trend, unfortunately, has been for German Restaurants to be closing down, there still are a few left in the L.A. metro area to get you through Parental Spatzel 101. But they may be a bit of a drive from the westside.

The Red Lion Academy in Silverlake is open.

Hello Sarah:

Speaking of all things German, have you ever been to the Red Lion? At the Silverlake/Echo Park nexus.
Not being no expert or nothin on German cuisine, I can at least
vouch for the atmosphere and did
enjoy their food and excellent beer. And it's a great place to
take the folks as well.

Spätzle are one of my favourite foods, and very easy to cook from scratch. The only problem is finding either a spätzle press or sieve in this part of the world. I suppose it's nothing special, but it just feels good to eat it.

Your dad's right, you're missing out!

Okay Sarah, the Cheesestore gets a small allotment of Moraga wines. Forget the Cab (that's so Asian ignorant, definitely not how the hip/trendy/wealthy Asian corkheads drink... try Pinot Noir, try Syrah, try Burgundies.. anything .Cab Sauv & Merlot immediately identify you as a wine drinker who's not advanced in their knowledge), but I think they sell the Sauv. Blanc for $30 ?, which is a much better buy and for me, much better wine to go with any Asian cuisine you could think of, sans BBQ Korean ribs/meats.

Holy Shiitake, I don't drink coctails; but $12!!! for a friggin martini. Damn Sarah, if you have that much bling you can take me to Urasawa for the 'marketing' effect ;). For $7 I can get you a food Zinfandel, and another $13 will get you that Antica Pizza takeout. All you need then, is for me to 'finish' it properly in your kitchen stove for that perfect crispy bottom, chewy top crust for that pizzagasm you seek ;) . Trust me, it will be far more satisfying than a martini *shakes head*, amazed at Sarah's drinking habits ;-)

Year of the Dog:

Born in the years: 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006.

Noble and true, the Dog will fight to mend all that is unjust. A loyal and faithful friend, they will make any sacrifice for the sake of another. A hard worker, they will never abandon their post. A genuine listener and confidant, the Dog is the keeper of all secrets. Compatible with Tiger, Horse and Rabbit.

Our last visit to Knoll's was X-mas eve just before they closed. It was always fantastic, not as good as Munich, but very good.
The greatest loss (closed Restaurant in LA) is still SCANDIA(Swede Food), thank goodness your Dad didn't know much about Sour Cream Herring or everyones fave LUTEFISH(the true meaning of Cod liver oil flavor in your mouth)?
